Rip Hamilton Believes Kobe Was Disrespected In CBS All-Time List - He's Right

CBS sports created waves yesterday when they released a top 15 list of players all time in the NBA. Before you pull your hair out looking at the list, there is no particular person to direct your anger towards because it was voted as a panel. Rip Hamilton, who was apart of that panel, appeared to have been an outlier on his opinion of where Kobe Bryant should have landed. Bryant came in at No.10 and Rip (rightly so) believed it was “disrespectful” to put him that far down on the list, for the record, he had him tied for 2 with LeBron.

“First of all, whoever voted and put Kobe [at 10] just flat out disrespected him. I feel like Kobe Bryant is the closest guy to Michael Jordan that we have ever seen. When you look at his stats and see, yes, he was an 18-time All-Star, he was a 15-time All-NBA player, tied with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, but when Magic Johnson comes out and says Kobe Bryant is the best Laker of all time, that means better than him, and better than the guy Magic played with, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar… He's probably the only guy -- and Raja can probably attest to this -- the only guy that I competed against in my 14-year NBA career that when I would come into the game I was low-key scared. The reason why is, Kobe was the type of player that was gonna try to kill you when the first minute of play started, all the way until the final buzzer went off.“

Rip was a teammate of MJs with the Wizards (I would know) and enjoyed a 14-year career that included an NBA championship in 2004. His opinion holds weight, so yes, we should pay attention to what he has to say. I also agree with him, there’s no way that Kobe Bryant should be 10th on any list. This is a subjective argument which is why I understand why CBS created a panel for the voting, but what I don’t get is how a collective group ranked one of the all-time greats this low. Btw, Rip is one of the all time great basketball names.
