Wake Forest Finally Makes The Right Decision
It's been announced that Wake Forest and ETSU head coach Steve Forbes have agreed to a deal to make him their next head coach. This is a strong hire for the deacons. They needed someone who proved that they can build up a program with a specific identity and he's proved that he can. He's won 130 games at ETSU in the past 5 years with two NCAA tournament berths and an overall head coaching record of 260-77. It came down to him or Wes Miller and either candidate would have been a step in the right direction.
Forbes definitely has his work cut out for him, but he can probably do no worse than Manning who was fired this past Saturday after a 78-111 overall record and a .273 winning percentage in conference - not going to cut it. Wake is a tough job and they haven't had much success since Skip Prosser in the early 2000's, Dino Gaudio had some traction but it was short lived. Now, they're expecting Forbes to help lead them into a successful, new era of Demon Deacon basketball in arguably the toughest conference in the NCAA. Good luck.
Forbes is a coaching lifer dating back to the 80's with power-conference experience as an assistant coach at Texas A&M, Tennessee and Wichita State.
